To the Hawaii County Council,
I am writing this letter to you in support of the Resolution 169-07.
I am a university student and have visited Punalu'u and Ka'u during an Intercultural
competence course. We were privileged to spend time with the local population and
participate in several traditional activities and hear wonderful stories of their
heritage. Spending time at Punalu'u I realized it is a very special place to those who
have lived there for their entire lives and any development to this area would devastate
everything they have, and everything the local population has worked so hard to preserve.
After visiting this special area of Hawaii I have realized there are not many places left
so pure. I deeply hope that is how it will remain.
Best regards,
Michelle Sylvester
