I have seen development of Hawaii lands for the sake of developers and investors do unthinkable things to the people and the'aina (land) in my many years living close to the ocean as a Waterman. The Ben Dillingham's murder of Mo'ili'ili duck farmers in order to get their landlwater to develop Waikiki. I grew up in Waikiki and watched as mainland developers took what they wanted with open-handed support of our elected officials. I has all been for personal gain on the part of all of the players. Look at Waikiki now...every kind of municipal infrastructure problem you can imagine. We the kamaina have no fish, because no reefs, we get sewer water instead. No excuses! I helped fight for saving Kalama Valley and Sandy Beach. Pig farmers got kicked off their land-now it really stinks! Papa Brown was blackmailed by the State into paying the same taxes for his little shack on Diamond Head as his rich neighbors-in order to pay these taxes he was forced to sell the properties in Kalahuipua'a-now the waters are polluted, the anchialine ponds of this area are in ruin from golf coarse fertilizers and depletion of water from mauka development. On and on are the examples of the Developers, Sate and County's inability to manage our lands. I also question the integrity of the partners in this project. None of them have really demonstrated there care for the environment and the people. Malama pono, Kirk Kirk Puuohau-Pummill Graphic+photography Public Information + Outreach Gemini Observatory 670 N.
