FROM J S CORREA, DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF,
AC POLICE CHIEF
SUBJECT: PEDDLING AT WAIPIO VALLEY LOOKOUT
We received your letter of October 6, 1997, requesting our
comments on the issue of allowing or restricting peddling at
the Waipio Valley Lookout area.
As you are aware, the lookout area is well utilized and at
times congested with both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. From
a police standpoint, we are concerned that vehicle and
pedestrian safety could be jeopardized should peddling activity
increase in this area considering the limited road shoulders
and number of parking spaces at the lookout and the increased
traffic in and out of the area.
In the interest of the public's safety, the immediate area
would be safer if peddling was prohibited on property under the
County's control at Waipio Valley Lookout.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to call
Captain Edwin Rapozo, Hamakua District Commander, at 775-9522.
