Subject: Pickett, 6/17/07 = Resolution 169-07
I write in strong support of Resolution 169-07, The Keolalani Hanoa Resolution. I
recently visited Ka'u and Punalu'u for an Intercultural Communication class with the
University of Minnesota Duluth. We rented houses there and learned about the native
culture of Hawaiians.
It was an amazing experience to 'talk story' with the local Hawaiians and become part of
their lives. They welcomed us into their family without hesitation, and the people I met
were happy to share their family traditions with me.I am very grateful for this experience
because they taught me the importance of community and support.
Everyone I met will always hold a special place in my heart so I would hate to see their
homes and environment destroyed by the proposed development at Panalu'u. This development
would hinder the lives of the local people and make it very difficult for them to pass
their family traditions and lifestyles to future generations, family and friends. Please
take action to stop the proposed development so that my Hawaiian friends can continue to
live in peace and share their lives with other students and visitors who come to Panalu'u.
Sincerely,
Katie Pickett
