Hawaii County Councilmembers
Aloha Hawaii County Councilmembers,
I am writing to urge you to support Resolution 169-07 and protect Punalu'u from
inappropriate development. Ka'u has a unique opportunity to show the world that community-
based development can save the environment and improve people's lives.
You should not bypass this one chance to move Hawaii in a new direction. Please save
Punalu'u.
With recent water shortages and other severe environmental issues looming, why would you
threaten another of Hawaii's treasured natural places?
1 recently visited South Point, Punalu'u and Ka'u and was struck by the beauty and stark
remoteness of the area. Please do not let development take this wild area from us.
Development of the Ka'u and neighboring areas has been difficult if not impossible to
sustain. Don't let this become another idea that was unable to be fully realized, don't
let it even be an idea that is seriously considered.
Mahalo,
Sheila O'Keefe
