Aloha Hawaii County Councilmembers,
Aloha mai e ka kou,
E 'olu'olu vote yes for Resolution 169-07. This is what the Public Access, Open Space, and
Natural Resources Preservation Fund was established for.
The community's plan for Punalu'u is wise and kind relative to building a thousand luxury
homes, a couple of resorts, and shopping mall. That may seem feasible for some
communities, but not Ka'u.
Governor Lingle says, ?We will never catch today?s global economic waves by developing
land. Instead we need to begin Focusing on human development?the kind of development that
recognizes our future economic success depends upon innovation and new ideas, o£ which
there is an unlimited supply.?
Now is the time for us to look to the future for more sustainable ways o£ living, learning
and evolving in our communities. This is one chance Hawaii has to make a change for the
better.
I visited this sacred place with John Kaha'i Topolinski as a member o£ his men's halau in
preparation for Merrie Monarch. See the bronze statue o£ the chained Hawaiian. E 'olu'olu
no, no more chains on Hawaii, ease instead the suffering. Listen to speak the language of
the land.
Please support the community, protect the 'aina, vote for Resolution 169-07.
