Re: Operating Budget
The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General's Crime Prevention and Justice
Assistance Division has authorized a $30,000 Cell Phone/PDA Violence Grant to the
Hawaii County Police Department. The grant's purpose is to improve the department's
ability to collect evidence from wireless communication devices in order to respond
appropriately to violent sex crimes, domestic violence crimes, homicides and assaults
against women.
Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General for this grant.
Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating
this $30,000 Cell Phone/PDA Violence Grant.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division is providing
a grant to improve Hawaii County's ability to collect and store suspect's personal information from cell
phones and other wireless electronic devices in order to respond appropriately to violence sex crimes,
domestic violence crimes, homicides and assaults against women by improving the evidence collection from
these wireless communication devices.
