Re: Acceptance of Donations
In accordance with (1) Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter, which
authorizes the Council, on behalf of the County, to accept gifts or donations of personal
property, and with (2) Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162 (c), of the Hawaii County Code,
which states that any donation or gift which does not fall within the capitalization procedures
of the department of finance shall be submitted to the council by letter for its approval, we
request the Council's approval of the following donations:
Two (2) monetary donations, totaling $887.81, to the Department of Parks &
Recreation; to be used towards the replacement of items and the
repairs/reconstruction and cleanup of the Pana`ewa Community Center; $781.81 by
the Big Island Auto Club, 581 Ainaola Drive, Hilo, Hawaii 96720 and $106.00 by the
Kamehameha Schools Hawaii -ASKS, 16-714 Volcano Road, Kea`au, Hawaii 96749.
We ask that a letter of appreciation be sent to each donor.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the recipient Department.

A. REQUEST:
To accept and acknowledge a donation of $887.81 to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Council action is being requested to accept and acknowledge a $781.81 donation by the Big Island Auto
Club and a $106 donation by Kamehameha Schools Hawaii-ASKS. Both donations will be used for
replacement of items, repairs/reconstruction and cleanup of the Panaewa Community Center.

Funds donated were derived from fundraisers that both agencies had earlier this year. Attached are copies of

On behalf of the Big Island Auto Club we would like to make a donation to
the Reconstruction of the Panaewa Community Center. Lela Yamashiro-
Yago formed a BIAC-Recycle Program. From the program she collected
$281.81. Adding to this donation the Big Island Auto Club donated a check
for $500.00 for a total of $781.81.
