Re: Proposed Purchase of Punalu'u Bay, Ninole Pond and surrounding coastal areas /
Resolution 169-07
Dear Councilman Jacobson,
I live in Volcano, have a business in Hilo (The Most Irresistible Shop in Hilo) and
have been visiting the Punalu'u area for over 30 years. To me, my family and friends it is a
most special place. I am still awed by the natural beauty and restorative nature of this
unspoiled place.
I hope with all my heart that you are able to save this Hawaiian coastline that has
so very much to give to the people to Hawaii. It would be such a sad thing if my children's
children could not renew themselves with its peace, quiet, ocean access, ponds, marshes
and abundant wildlife.
For some years we have participated in the annual ocean clean up at Punalu'u,
focusing on the Ninole pond area. We call ourselves, "Volcano Friends of Punalu'u.
Be a friend of Punnlu'u yourself and save this incredible place. It will be a legacy
that gives back for generations to come.
With aloha and respect,
Sally M Mermel
