Aloha Bob,
We support Resolution 169-07 to purchase 150 acres at Punalu'u, Ka'u,
2000 feet from the shoreline for a free public park, with free public
access, including historical sites, the boat ramp, fishing rights,
and present park uses. we also ask that the present small property
owners not be included in this purchase.
We also ask that the proposed development of Sea Mountain be kept to
a minimum to lessen the impacts on the rest of the island community.
We already have too much traffic and development, for instance, in
Kona which took away our lovely lifestyle with bumper to bumper
traffic. No one wants this area to be built up in that extreme way.
We question how many actual jobs will be generated, how many people
actually have to drive to Kona for work. Has a study/survey made on
how many people would fill up a resort and housing units in Ka'u
which presently has insufficient, narrow roads. The impact on the
highways must be considered before any development be allowed in such
a remote, pristine, undeveloped area. who would pay for highways
improvements to handle the increased traffic?
We must keep our wild and pristine places such as Ka'u with all it's
sacred sites as it is, the public needs places they know are still in
their natural state. There is very little left, especially here in
Hawaii. Once it's developed and built up it's gone forever.
