Neither Ka'u Preservation nor O Ka'u Kakou ever asked my wife's nor my
opinion about Sea Mountain Five's project. They don't represent us.
Your "Punalu'u Public Survey' is our first opportunity to express our feelings.
Both my wife and I are registered voters and we take time to vote.
Our opinions are basically the same. We favor Sea Mountain Five developing
their land according to their plan. Hopefully they have developed a plan that is
profitable. It's not right for some vocal minority groups to extort from this developer.
I checked the zoning at the planning department. Sea Mountain Five bought that
Punaluu property with 250 feet from the ocean zoned conservation, then there's a strip
zoned urban, and the balance is zoned resort. So long as Sea Mountain Five complies
with that zoning it is their right to develop their land.
Additionally, we need some jobs in Ka'u. The lack of jobs here is partially
responsible for drug use. Improper law enforcement is the cause of drug problems here.
It is corruption when the police look the other way for their friends and relatives or for
payoffs.
There is plenty of other Ka'u coastline usable for parks.
This development will bring additional infrastructure, such as enhanced police,
fire, medical, etc. that currently are not available at an acceptable level. Hence, the
county police, prosecutors, and judges withheld law enforcement effectively putting our
Ka'u Gold Orange farm, employing 50 people, o/u~t
of business.
