I hope that the quote attributed to you in the July ]0 West Hawaii Today
headlines("All we've done is mislead the public. We have no moneys for this
purchase..")is either inaccurate or taken out of context. Because, if it is not, I am
surprised and somewhat insulted. Surprised because I was expecting a statement more
along the lines of "While I support the intent of resolution 169-07, the fact is that the
county currently has no money for this purchase." This would have at least clarified who
"we" is that has no money and indicates it might be obtained in the future. More
importantly, such a statement would have indicated your support for establishing a 150
acre county pazk at Punalu'u. I find it hazd to believe that you do not support establishing
a pazk and so I wonder why you didn't indicate that misleading the public was not the
only thing accomplished bypassing the resolution.
As a member of the public who supported 169-07, I am mildly insulted that you
believe I was mislead. I am fully aware that the county appazently has no money
available for the purchase. And, even if the county did have some money, I am aware of
thc difficulty in fully funding the purchase. Passing 169-07 is only the fast step(but a
vital first step) in what is probably is going to be a long process whose outcome is
uncertain. I am aware of that and I believe that those actually involved in this issue are
aH~aze of that. Please, mayor, grant us some intelligence.
