RE: Report on Teen Dating Violence
Aloha Chairman Hoffmann,
Teen dating violence is a disturbing and an increasing problem in our community. Carol Kitaoka
will report on Teen Dating Violence and the work of the Committee on the Status of Women to
stop the violence. Managing Director, Dixie Kaetsu, representing Mayor Harry Kim, will follow
Ms. Kitaoka's report with a short presentation.
A Teen Dating Violence Prevention Peer Education Conference will be held on October 18 &
19, 2007. The first day will be a conference in East Hawaii and the second day will be a
conference in West Hawaii. Through these conferences, teenagers will be educated on how to
address this problem among their peers. Education and peer support on this issue will have a
positive influence in helping our young people to become good citizens and partners in their
future relationships.
Please agendize this report for the Human Services Committee on July 24, 2007. I anticipate
about 45 minutes for the presentation, discussion, and the questions and answers period.
