HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0349.870 2006-2008 ' July 25, 2007 Members of the Hawaii County Council: My name is Franco Longakit. I am retired from Ka'u Sugar and have lived in Pahala for many years. I am married and have a daughter who is a student in Pahala. I oppose Resolution No. 169-07 for the County to acquire lands being proposed for the Sea Mountain project. Instead, I support the Sea Mountain project because it will provide jobs for the people of Ka'u. My wife works at Volcano House and drives 50-plus miles (round trip) to work each day. I always worry about her being on the road by herself. If she could find a job in Ka'u, how much easier that would be for her and for all of us. My daughter thinks that she needs to move away from Ka'u when she grows up if she wants a good job. Maybe she will move away anyway, but with the Sea Mountain project, she will have the option to stay in Ka'u if she wants to. Like many residents of Ka'u, I am concerned about over-development that brings too many people, too much traffic, and harm to the environment. But I think it is possible for the Sea Mountain group to be sensitive to the environment, sensitive to the people of Ka'u, aril sensitive to our community needs. Instead of opposing the project, the County Council should ensure that the developer keeps their promises and creates a project that will provide good jobs, public access to the ocean and other resources, and respect for Native Hawaiian concerns. Thank you for considering my views on this matter. Sincerely, Franco Longakit corn„,. 3 ~fl. t7o Ref. Ta / Ref. Date ~ 007
