SUBJECT: Puna Community Health Center

I am writing to respectfully request that, on Oct. 2 in the Human Services and Economic
Development Committee meeting, representatives from the Puna Community Health Center
give a presentation. This group has established anon-profit organization, opened a bank
account and is working on a business plan and obtaining a federal tax ID to raise funds to open
a "Doc-In-The-Box" walk-in clinic in the Malama Mazketplace.
The group has a commitment from a physician, physician assistant and nurse practitioner
to staff the clinic. The Pahoa Community Health Center would be a comprehensive medical
center modeled after the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (WCCHC).
Please allow about 25 to 30 minutes for this presentation. This would be in addition to
the presentations from representatives from Bay Clinic and the UH Medical School's Hilo
Residency program.
