j~ <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> .J. <br /> ~~Tt Ol~N~~' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 292 O'7 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY <br /> GENERAL, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A SPECIALIZED INVESTIGATIVE <br /> <br /> TRAINING GRANT FOR THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention and <br /> Justice Assistance Division has authorized funding towards the Hawaii County Police Department's <br /> Specialized Investigative Training Project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Police Department views sexual, domestic and physical <br /> violence against women as a serious problem; and <br /> WHEREAS, the goal of this project is to improve Hawaii County Police Department's ability to <br /> respond to violent crimes against women through ongoing specialized training for the Juvenile Aid <br /> Section (JAS) Detectives; and <br /> WHEREAS, the JAS have the responsibility of investigating all sexual assaults and violence <br /> cases involving an intimate partner or family household member, which includes but are not limited to <br /> physical abuse, assault, and sexual assaults; and <br /> WHEREAS, this goal can be accomplished by providing specialized training, focusing on the <br /> most current methods in investigating violence against women cases, which include interviewing of <br /> victims, interrogation of suspects, evidence collection and preservation, court preparation and <br /> presentation of the cases; and <br /> WHEREAS, the funds provided by the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General are <br /> derived from grants provided by the federal government; and <br /> <br />
