Murashige, Laura
From: Adam Silverstein [adamrsilverstein@gmail.com]
Sent: Monday, July 30, 2007 12:56 PM ; ~ ' 1' '
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: In Support Of Resolution 169-07
Hello. My name is Adam Silverstein. I currently live in Minneapolis Minnesota and I am writing this message to
express my support for Resolution 169-07.
I had the privilege of visiting Hawaii back in January of 2004 with Michael Sunnafrank and over 20 other students
from the University of Minnesota Duluth. I have been to many beautiful places in my life so far but none of them
comes close to the splendor and the magnificence of your Hawaii. During my trip there, I was able to see a lot of
wonderful places on Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island and I was fortunate enough to meet some of the great
people who are lucky enough to live there. And while I loved each island for its own unique characteristics, the Big
Island and in particular the K'au district was my favorite part of the trip not only because on the wonderful people I
met there, but because of the natural, undeveloped beauty that is everywhere on that part of the Big Island.
Seeing a part of Hawaii that isn't urbanized with homes and neighborhoods everywhere is something that I hope
to see again and I hope to share with my children someday. It greatly troubles me that there is a debate going on
now within your ranks that could jeopardize this precious part of Hawaii. While I can understand the economic
challenges that face you and your constituents, I implore you to please consider saving this wondertul part of your
state and leave the K'au district the way it is by supporting resolution 169-07. Developing a bunch of homes and
neighborhoods in this area would not only destroy the natural beauty that is becoming increasingly rare in your
state, it would be harmful to the local Hawaiian people and culture that showed me so much Aloha on my trip
there.
Please support resolution 169-07 and allow the residents of that district to be heard. Please allow me upon my
return there to see banyan and coconut trees, not parking lots and driveways. Please allow the residents of that
district to have a voice. Please vote to preserve one of the few remaining places in Hawaii where natural beauty is.
still more prevalent than condos and ABC stores. Please vote in support of Resolution 169-07 and help save this

wondertul part of Hawaii that you were elected to watch over and protect.
Mahalo,
Adam Silverstein
Comm.
