The Big Island US Army JROTC programs have been severely cut
financially due to the war effort. Over the past years, we have been
able to participate in numerous State-level events and competitions on
Oahu with the other 25 schools. Almost all travel funds or event
funds are no longer available.
The annual Spring Camp or Joint Cadet Leadership Challenge
(JCLC), is held at Schofield Barracks this year from 26-29 Mar 07. It
is a very intense few days. The cadets sleep in Army tents which they
set-up themselves. They rise at 0400 every day. There will be 400
cadets State-wide. During the camp, cadets will participate in
rappelling, drown-proofing, rope bridges, obstacle courses and the
leadership reaction course. Cadets will be split-up from their school's
JROTC programs and formed into 4 groups which will enhance
interpersonal relations.
During this summer, 18-21 Jun 07, all Big Island schools have
planned an Advanced Leadership Training Camp (ALTC) at the
Hawaii Army National Guard Headquarters in Hilo. This is an
intense junior development 4 days of leadership, color guard, physical
fitness, and drill and ceremonies. Cadets will be constantly tested and
evaluated. It is similar to a noncommissioned officer training course.
We are requesting financial support to be able to participate in theses
events. Some funds have become available from the US Army but
not enough to cover the 25 slots each school has for JCLC and
nothing for the Summer Program.
