SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR TIME EXTENSION
REVISIONS TO CHAPTER 27 -HAWAII COUNTY CODE
As you know, the County of Hawaii has been diligently working on revisions to Chapter 27 since
February of this year with the introduction of Bill 51. Public interest and testimony has been
tremendous. Unfortunately, this has raised many unanticipated issues that has delayed the passage
of the Bill. As a result, on August 15 Bill 51, Drafr 5 will be withdrawn and replaced with Bill 151.
We have conducted two public meetings this week regarding the new Bill 151 which has raised new
issues such as impacts to ADA accessibility and affordable housing projects.
In the event that we are unable to adopt Bill 151 by September 30, 2007, I ask for your cooperation
in granting the County of Hawaii an extension until November 30, 2007. We do not want to hastily
adopt a bill that may be defective and/or have unacceptable impacts to the public just to meet the
September 30th deadline.
Your understanding of our situation and subsequent approval of our request will be sincerely
appreciated.
