RESOLUTION NO. 3n'7 O'7
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the goal of the "Teen Dating Violence Conferences" is to eliminate the
prevalence and cultural acceptance of teen dating violence by increasing awareness by teenagers
of its illegality and harmful future effects; and
WHEREAS, the Teen Dating Violence Conferences will be held in East Hawaii and
West Hawaii on October 18, 2007 and October 19, 2007, respectively; and
WHEREAS, there were an estimated 4,000 incidents of sexual assault in public schools
across the United States during the 1996-1997 school year alone; and
WHEREAS, the target audience is teenagers and their peer groups; and
WHEREAS, victims of violent adolescent relationships frequently accept abuse in their adult
relationships and are at high risk for substance abuse, eating disorders and risky sexual behaviors, and
suicide; and
WHEREAS, the occurrence of teen dating violence usually results in escalating violence in
adult relationships; and
WHEREAS, every 12 seconds a woman is beaten in the United States and every six hours a
woman is killed; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the
Office of the Mayor for the Teen Dating Violence Conference; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
forward a copy of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor and the Director of Finance, and that
the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with
the terms of this resolution.
