The two tax map key numbers that comprise this designated Ocean Park are 1-5-088:001 and 1-x111:001 arui corset of a~pproramately 3.4 acres. This parcel lies within the Shoreline Management Area and was set aside as an Ocean Park undar final subdivision approve. The parcels are contiguous with the 385 acre Honolulu Landing parcels. The Finarxe Carrmit~ recenity approved a Resolution 287-07 to authorize negotiations on the Horwlulu Landing parcels. A Suggestion Fonn is in the process of being submitted to the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission recommending these parcels be protected. By indudirg the 3.4 aces Ocean Park with the proposed Honolulu Landing purchase, the County would be extending the protected coastline by nearly 1,000 linear feet such that the majority of coastal properties betiiveen Kahakai Boulevard arxi 1960 lava flow in Kapoho would be preserved as open space. This stretch of coast rbrda~ some of the most ancient Hawaiian cultural sites in the islands, along with signficant stands of native vegehation supporting Hawaiian hawks and owls. The Hawaiian Shores Community Association is d~arged with maintaining private roadways and a private water well system for its nearly 1300 parcels. As the costs of providing Public infrastructure increases, the assodatiorr has investigated selling the Ocean Park for residential development in order to fund necessary improvements for its road and water systems. The proposal to sell the Ocean Park for residential development has sparks a seriously divisive canflid in the subdivision as many residerts feel the area should be maintained as open space and ocean access. Attorneys trove already been consulted. Carflids of this nature quickly become exper>sive for residents to resolve and leave corrrrruraties frac6ured thus we feel there is an element of urgency to this decision. If the County can make the commitment to presence these parcels through a future purchase, this issue will not move vrto the courts. The undersigned residerts recogn¢e that by indu~r?g the Ocean Park vrith purchase of the Hondulu Landing paraa, the County may assure that the area ~ preserved for its intended use and the community assoc~tion will eventua8y receive a fair and reasonatNe market price to address the necessary raid mantenance such as resurfaang, the development of a second well for the existing water system, and rr~ntenance of its preexisting 5 acre park.
