Dear Council members,
I have read with dismay and anger Councilwoman Ford's statements to ~lUest Hawaii ;"od;
concerning the reaction of the "development community" co her proposed legislation in Bill; 1
and 151, It was an inflammatory statement that mischaracterizes the published staterreirs ar:l
recorded testimony to date.
It cannot sit well with thr. Council that those people who are trying to produce facidit es au~l
housing for the Big Island community are characterized by a prominent public servan- in st::
negative manner. We do not possess political skills, however our tasks are very diffiu,.t, and ~i
business propositions are inherently risky. Can any one of you deny that a very larg< hsrc en!:„
our resorts have been built and paid for by developers who failed? I recall the matter of the Hi: r
Regency Waikoloa which was built for $385 million and sold a year or two later Eor ~ 12.E m. ' r

The public does not understand the incredible difficulties facing anyone who would ;i!:e co
develop their property in accordance with the zoning it possesses and raise the propel tax I .
