Subject: Superstores
Dear Council-
h~,~~ rc(1 t~ 1 iii
Thank you for reviewing the issue of growth. If we do not addre~'s~E~i3s problem now, it
will just be in your in-box year after year. And each year it will get more difficult-to
address.

NO - we do not need superstores on this island. we already have plenty and you know their
history of damaging small business. Even in Waimea, with no superstore, Blockbuster drove
two video stores out of business. Traffic is already a nightmare in KK, why would we want
to approve more grand development until it gets to the point where traffic is a nightmare
everywhere? On an island with only one road to get to most places, it is JUST NOT
REASONABLE to construct more buildings that will bring huge numbers of cars to one
location.
You might wantto consider that profits on the part of the superstores (which, of course,
do not stay in the community) do NOT outweigh priority of quality of life for which most
people have moved here. Not to mention the quality of life of the people who grew up k;ere
- most people like the quieter nature of the Big Island and do not desire it to resemble a
smaller version of southern California. Anything you cannot currently buy at Walmart,
Kmart, Safeway, Costco, and soon, Target, you can probably get online. 2 just donut see
the necessity.
Thank you for your consideration.
