Dear Councilman Hoffman, -
Please do what is in your power to draft legislation that would ban superstores.
I understand:
A bill to create a new zoning district for superstores will be heard
next Wednesday, September 5th at 3:00 PM in Kona.
The bill was drafted by the Planning Department and DOES NOT ban
Superstores on the Big Island. It merely creates another hoop that
they have to jump through, but if this bill passes, huge superstores ,
can still come to the Big Island.
As of today, we have not heard of any drafted legislation that would
ban superstores. Although several council members supported the
resolution to send the issue to the planning department, a bill has
not been drafted yet and thus not being heard in committee.
Again: I like to see legislation that would ban superstores on the island.
