Re: Change of Zone Application (REZ 97-18) TMK 1-6-143:38
Thank you for considering our request for this change of zone. Having
served as one of the founding members of the Puna Wellness Coalition I
have discovered firsthand that there is a critical need for additional medical
services in the Puna District.
Because of its central location we and, more importantly, many medical
professionals, believe a medical clinic in Keaau would be an ideal location.
We believe the subject vacant parcel is well suited for a clinic because it is
in the central part of town but is off the main road through town, namely
Old Volcano Highway. It is located between the existing County
police/fire/court complex and the Community Center and is opposite the
Hawaii Housing Authority's elderly housing complex. Additionally it backs
up to the new Keaau Corner Shopping Center.
Because of existing surrounding uses we do not think the present RS 15
zoning is appropriate for this lot.
We appreciate your consideration of this matter.
