RESOLUTION NO. 343 U'7
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MONETARY GIFT OF
FORTY-NINE THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($49,900) FROM THE
DANIEL R. SAYRE MEMORIAL FUND TO THE HAWAII FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund, established by Dr. Frank and Laura Sayre
in memory of their son, Daniel who lost his life in a tragic accident in Pololu Valley, annually
recognizes the bravery of the Hawaii County Fire Rescue squads and provides monetary support
to purchase rescue equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund has presented a monetary gift of forty-nine
thousand nine hundred dollars ($49,900) to the Hawaii Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be used to purchase rescue equipment (valued at
approximately $37,900) and to contract an instructor for the "Ropes Course I and II" (valued at
$12,000) for the rescue personnel at the Waiakea and Kailua Stations; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Fire Department recommends the acceptance of this
donation; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, provides that the
Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of money, securities, or other
personal property or real estate or any interest in real estate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the Hawaii
Fire Department is authorized to accept this monetary gift of forty-nine thousand nine hundred
dollars ($49,900) from the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution be
sent to the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund, c/o Ms. Kalei Stern, Director of Marketing & Client
Engagement, Hawaii Community Foundation, 1164 Bishop Street, Suite 800, Honolulu, Hawaii
96813, acknowledging this generous donation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall also forward copies of this
resolution to the Hawaii Fire Department and the Department of Finance.
