RESOLUTION NO.
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MONETARY GIFT OF
THIRTY-NINE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED SIXTY-SEVEN DOLLARS ($39,567)
FROM THE GREGG MALKIN MEMORIAL FUND TO THE HAWAII FIRE
DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund was established by Glenn and Donna Malkin
in memory of their son, Gregg who perished in a drowning accident, offshore of Maku'u Drive in
Hawaiian Paradise Park; and
WHEREAS, the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund, organized under the umbrella of the Daniel
R. Sayre Memorial Fund, has presented a monetary gift of thirty-nine thousand five hundred sixty-
seven dollars ($39,567) to the Hawaii Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be used to purchase water rescue equipment (valued at
approximately $27,567) and to contract an instructor for the "Ropes Course III" (valued at $12,000)
for the rescue personnel at the Waiakea and Kailua Stations; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Fire Department recommends the acceptance of this
monetary gift; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, provides that the
Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of money, securities, or other
personal property or real estate or any interest in real estate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the Hawaii
Fire Department is authorized to accept this monetary gift of thirty-nine thousand five hundred
sixty-seven dollars ($39,567) from the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution be
sent to the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund, c/o Ms. Kalei Stern, Director of Marketing & Client
Engagement, Hawaii Community Foundation, 1164 Bishop Street, Suite 800, Honolulu, Hawaii
96813, acknowledging this generous donation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall also forward copies of this
resolution to the Hawaii Fire Department and the Department of Finance.
