STATEMENT OF T$E II.WU LOCAL 142 ON RESOLUTION 169-0'
The ILWU Local 142 opposes Resolution 169-07, which would authorize the County t r c~., n'h

programs to benefit the people of Ka'u.
Several projects have beea~ rejected in the past due to concerns about ova-developrrer, o~: ti:
Ka'u ere:a. Everyone who lives there wants to preserve the natural environment and the 71r i1
lifestyle. We ogee with tJre need to preserve nature and the community. However, we aiso
believe that the residents of Ka'u Head responsible economic development to allow thel - -o
support themselves, maintain their home, and keep Ka'u from becoming a ghost town.
We think it is possible for the Sea Mountain goup m be sensitive to the environment, ! at = i~ i
to the peeople of Kah, and sensitive to our community needs. Instead of opposing the tl v; ecr
County Council should en.;ure that the developers keep their promises and create a pre j'ct Ohl
will pro',nde good jobs, public access to the ocean and other resources, and respect for t a;ivc

The ILWU urges rejection of Resolution L69-07 and supports a responsible Sea Mounts in
