Honorable Council Members,
I regret that I cannot attend the Sept. 19th meeting, due to my job. I
hope the Council will use whatever means possible, including eminent
domain, to preserve this coastal area from development. Much of the land
proposed for the Punalu'u park is located in the area inundated by the 1975
tsunami. (See attached map from Draft EIS). The area zoned for the
smaller hotel is within this tsunami inundation zone. It is in the best
interest of the County's liability, the health, safety and social conditions of
the public, and future fiscal expenditures to acquire these parcels and restrict
all building in this area. Land inundated by the Hilo tswlami is now a park
used for sporting events. Purchase of this land will not eliminate economic
development in this area. Thank you for listening.
