Deaz Sir;
We aze writing on behalf of our chapter in support of the Hawaii Island Humane Society. We
have heazd that a group of Kona residents wrote to you accusing the Shelters of improper treat-
ment and disposal of animals. Although we do not directly know what was written in these
letters, we do have first hand experience in working with the shelter and would like to shaze it
with you. The Lehua Jaycees have been involved with the Keaau Shelter for the past three yeazs
assisting in the coordination of the annual East Hawaii Pet Walk. Over these years, we have
worked closely with the shelter's officers and volunteers and have never seen any animal mis-
treatment. Also, because of our community work, we work with various organizations and
individuals and have not heazd of any mistreatment of animals or complaints about the shelter.
Infact, some of our members have utilized some of the animal services the shelter provides. In
organizing the Pet Walk, we have also worked with many of the local veterinarians and animal
oriented business and have only heard of high praise and cooperation from the shelter. The
Lehua Jaycees have always and will always support only creditable organizations, such as the
Hawaii Island Humane Society.
Sincerely,
O,
Lee Mori,
33rd President of the Lehua Jaycees
