I have lived in Kona for 30 yrs. During this time I have seen more and more disregard for the sign ordinance. In May I started my own campaign to have the illegal road signs removed .After many calls, a-mails and faxes I finally got to Mr. Bruce McClure who told me he was going to start to enforce the code. The previous"enforcers" were the building inspectors for construction, probably the two busiest guys in the county. It appears there was no plan to enforce this code. I was told all along that the sign issue was low priority. You have all seen the blight on our roadsides. One developer built real estate signs that were 3 ft by 4 ft. He had 4 in Queen Kahamanu Hwy ,2 on Mamaloha Hw. and 6 on Kaiminani Dr. Then the listing realtor put up a few of their own. The same developer has a billboard 4 ft by 8 ft. right across the road from the firehouse, this one still remains today. These signs have been up for over two years. This is abuse ! It also encourages other business to follow suit and one up the next persons signs with more and bigger signs. Kona is begining to look horrible ,lets nip this in the bud and help these folks figure another way to advertise their business and location. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Tom Pyne Comm: Fla (0 5 8 Ref. To:~~~~ML Ref. Dore $ 2007 9/13/2007
