The Hawaii County Police Department would like to issue a Request for Proposal for animal control services for the County of Hawaii, for the contract period beginning on January 1, 2008 and ending on June 30, 2012. The contract will include the operation and proper maintenance of animal shelter and pound facilities, recovery and proper disposal of dead animals found on public ways, enforcement of laws relating to animals, operation of a 24-hour dispatch system to receive calls for service, selling of dog licenses, and administration of a spay/neuter program for dogs and cats. Due to the current animal contract extension expiring on December 31, 2007, the Police Department would like to request a waiver from the Finance Committee and have this resolution heard at the Council meeting scheduled for October 17, 2007.
