As longtime supporters of the Hawaii Island Humane Society and former members of its board of
directors, we are very familiar with this fine humane organization.
Without exception, we have alw2ys found its sole motivation to be the welfare of the animals of the
County of Hawaii
Kindness, compassion, hnmane treatment these words describe the philosophy and mission of
the Hawaii Is12nd Humane Society 30 years ago, and they describe it today.
Not so, the group calling itself, among other names, the West Hawaii Humane Society. While
giving lip service to its "love for animals," its actions speak louder. This group led by Ginger Towle has an
embarrassing track record of slander campaibms and vicious attacks against the Hawaii Island Humane
Society and it appears another disturbing and malicious crusade is under way.
Please consider the source, the content and the motivation when reviewing charges made by the
West Hawaii Humane Society against the Hawaii Island Hwnane Society.
As you probably know, the Hawaii Island Humane Society built the Keaau Shelter several decades
ago with funds donated by its wmmunity of supporters. The Hawaii Island Humane Society has continued
to operate this shelter, and for the last 7-8 years, the County's Kona and Waimea Shelters as well, in a
fiscally responsible, professional manner.
