A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION
OUT AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME
TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, domestic violence constitutes a major problem in Hawaii County and has
recently resulted in multiple deaths; and
WHEREAS, there aze increased numbers of women and children needing crisis sheltering
from domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, domestic violence is an intergenerational problem, and the children subjected
visually or physically to such domestic violence usually become victims or abusers in adulthood; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is committed to reducing domestic violence in
our community; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attomey and the Hawaii County Police
Department support a permanent Community Violence Coordinator position; and
WHEREAS, the Community Violence Coordinator will be part of a Domestic Violence
Interagency Team consisting of police, hospitals, the Judiciary, the Office of the Prosecuting
Attomey, nonprofit organizations, religious organizations, and community members to assist in
reducing the high domestic violence rate in Hawaii County; and
WHEREAS, the Community Violence Coordinator would ensure that all agencies,
governmental and non-governmental, develop strategies to respond appropriately to domestic
violence; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the
Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to be used towards the Community Violence Coordinator position;
now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and the Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
