WHY THE AD?
Why does Hawaii Island Humane Society feel the need to run ads outlining their services.
They received $604,000.00, for fiscal year 1997/1998, for the Animal Control Contract, to do
this job.
In their March 29th ad, they state that "Low-cost spay/neuter program that this year will provide
twice as many certificates as in previous years." They do not mention that the County of Hawaii
funds $30,000.00 for this certificate program. If their organization is funding money, in
addition, they need to clarify and state the exact amount they are adding to this program
They also say "Humane Education at no cost to the schools or County." I know for a fact there is
no such program.
How much are these ads costing? Who is paying for them? If it's coming from County funds,
that's not o.k, if it's coming from funds the community is giving the humane society for animal
care that's not o.k. I suppose it is possible that some benevolent individual pays for the ads, but
why? If they felt they were doing the job right, that should be all the advertising they need.. Me
thinks tY~~y doth protest too much! !

Mission
The mission of the Hawaii Island Humane Society is to
enhance the bond between humans and animals, prevent
cruelty to animals and eliminate pet overpopulation.
How We Help

• 24-hour, on-call island wide emergency service
