I have been involved with preservation in Hawau since 1973, having worked for both state and #ederal agencies and privaxe contracting firms that support the protection arxi preservation of all culnrral resources from objects to buildings including landscapes. Each cultural resource type helps co preserve a bit of the past for the present and futue generatiar,s. I enwurage you to support this Bill that assists the state effort, not duplicate the work ac the State level, but as a County effort, provide assistance at the local level for determining what is signifrcant in the Couny of Hawau. This Bill will help to preserve and protect the significant pieces of history for the future, it is imperative that the County of Hawaii take the position of leader in preserving our resources. This BiU would help to move Hawaii C'.rnrnty iota that leadership role.. The Bill would benefit trot only the resources, bra communities would be preserved, local history wouk be preserved, and visitors and businesses would benefit from the preservation of our significazrt resources and the interpretation of these resotvices. Critical to the success of a Cultural Resource Commission would be to have responsible professional local leaders as part of the com.++ision membership. Conaurently, to ensure the success of the Cukunl Resources Commission adequate funding that supports a cultural resoucoe professional and clerical staff is a prerequisite. I support you in your effort to protect the irreplaceable historic and cultural resources of Hawaii C.amty Very tnily Yours, Laura C Schuster Comm. No, `LL.2/ Ref. To: haerM~ uru~ f Ref.
