I am Janet Tatsuta-Byrnes, a registered nurse at Hilo Medical Center.
I am writing of my concerns regarding Bi11 198 prohibiting parking
on Waianuenue Ave. from the mauka access to Rainbow Drive ti Waiau St,
The decision to prohibit parking along Waianuenue Ave. along the
Hilo Medical Center (HMC) campus assumes that we have adequete and
safe parking for staff and visitorso The new parking lot mauka of
the acute hospital has provided partial :relief fcr a longstanding
parking problem at HMC but only because staff and visitors at the
Extended Care end of the HMC campus use 'the area around the mauka
access to Rainbow Drive of Waianuenue Ave. The traffic division
has marked this area off as a no parking area in the proposed bill
(See map). This area is chosen as safer than parking directly across
Waianuenue Ave. in the DLNR gravel lot which is unlit and unpaved.
Still this lot is necessarily well used. With the new construction
going on of the radiology-oncology facility 26 stalls designated
for employees in the parking lot across the street from the acute
hospital has been blocked off til November 1 and possibly beyond.
Until the hospital provides adequete and safe parking for all visitors
and staff, I ask that you consider altering if not deferring the
bill in its present form.
