HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 404 Draft 01 2006-2008 ~1Mty os N O; '~C.: COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 404 07 RESOLUTION CREATING FOUR (4) CUSTODIAN/GROUNDSKEEPER I POSITIONS AND FIVE (5) CUSTODIAN/GROUNDSKEEPER I (1/4T) POSITIONS FOR THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the Civil Case Number 98-244, United Public Workers Union (UPW) versus the County of Hawaii, et al., relating to the privatization of janitorial and ground maintenance work, has been settled; and WHEREAS, the settlement calls for the County of Hawaii to hire UPW workers instead of contracting out for janitorial and grounds maintenance services; and WHEREAS, in order to comply with the civil settlement, the Hawaii County Police Department would like to create four (4) Custodian/Groundskeeper Ifull-time positions and five (5) Custodian/Groundskeeper I (1/4T) positions to meet the daily maintenance needs at its various stations; and WHEREAS, the four (4) full-time Custodian/Groundskeeper I positions will be located as follows: two (2) positions for the Kealakehe Station, one (1) position assigned to maintain the South Kohala Station and Mauna Lani substation, and one (1) position assigned to maintain the Puna Station and Pahoa substation; and WHEREAS, the five (5) Custodian/Groundskeeper I (1/4T) positions will be situated as follows: one (1) position each at Kona (Captain Cook), at North Kohala, at Hamakua, at North Hilo, and at Ka`u; and WHEREAS, there should be sufficient funds in the Police Department's Janitorial Services account upon the termination of the respective maintenance contracts; and WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that four (4) full-time Custodian/Groundskeeper I, BC-02, positions and five (5) Custodian/Groundskeeper I (1/4T), BC-02, positions be created for the Hawaii County Police Department. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there should be sufficient funds in the Police Department's Janitorial Services account upon the termination of the respective maintenance contracts. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Departments of Finance, Human Resources, and Police. Dated at xilo ,Hawaii, this 7th day of tVOVember , 2007.
