RESOLUTION NO. 406 07
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Institute for a Sustainable Future, a 501(c)(3)nnn-profit organization,
through collaborative efforts with organizations in West Hawaii and volunteer citizens of the
community, presents the 2008 Kona Earth Festival, to commence April 19, 2008 through
May 11,2008; and
WHEREAS, the purpose and goal of the Kona Earth Festival is to raise awazeness of and
respect for the environment through activities and events that promote practical and ethical
solutions for sustainability, while ensuring culturally appropriate context; and
WHEREAS, the Kona Earth Festival events include: Earth Day Fair, Coral Reef
Awazeness Day, Malama `Aina Clean Up Day, Recycled Art and Fashion Show, Art of
Recycling School Competition Reception, West Hawaii Veterans' Cemetery Dryland
Reforestation Project, Beyond Oil (or Sustainable) Film Series, Tropical Reforestation &
Ecosystems Education (TREE) Hawaii -Community Tree Planting in O`oma State Forest,
NELHA Renewable Energy Festival & Solar Energy Workshop, Green Power Girl School Rally,
Kuleana Green Business Conference & Trade Show, Farm Tour of Organic Mini-Farm, Earth
Mother's Day; and
WHEREAS, the Kona Earth Festival activities will educate visitors and citizens of West
Hawaii and provide opportunities to experience sensitive and ethical stewardship skills that
promote protection of Hawai`i's natural and cultural resources; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to be used towards the Kona Earth Day Festival to
defray the costs to provide this educational and valuable community service; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth below:

010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $3,000
CREDITED TO:
010.161.5161.60 Department of Research and Development $3,000
Tourism Promotion, Misc. Contract Services
(Kona Earth Festival)
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this Resolution.
