No. 680/Bill No. 177 PLACE: Council room Ben Franklin Building, 2"`~ Floor 333 Kilauea Ave. Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 8:30 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication 680, regarding Bill No. 177, relating to establishing a new bus stop location along Kamehameha Avenue, west side, beginning from a point sixty feet south of Kalakaua Street extending fifty feet in the southerly direction for a limited time from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on school days, reports as follows: Bill 177, transmitted by Director of Public Works Bruce McClure, via Communication No. 680, dated September 12, 2007, amends Chapter 24 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), relating to Vehicles and Traffic. The Department of Public Works states this bus loading zone is being provided to reduce congestion along the pazking lot mauka of Kamehameha Avenue during the afternoon when the Connections New Century Public Charter School buses are loading students for their homeward journey. Since parking is a premium, this zone will only operate for one hour on school days. There was no testimony from members of the public regarding the proposed bill. Mr. Ronald L. Thiel, Traffic Division Chief from the Department of Public Works appeared before your Committee, however there were no questions amongst your Committee members.
