Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 343-07, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 343-07, transmitted jointly with Resolution No. 344-07 and Bill No. 178,
transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. 681, dated
September 14, 2007, authorizes the acceptance of a donation in the amount of $49,900.00 from
the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation to the Hawaii Fire Department.
The funds will be used to purchase rescue equipment (valued at approximately $37,900) and to
contract an instructor for the "Ropes Course I and II" (valued at $12,000) for the rescue
personnel at the Waiakea and Kailua Stations.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money, securities, or other personal property or real
estate or any interest in real estate.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund,
Attn: Ms. Kalei Stern, Director of Donor Services, Hawaii Community Foundation,
1164 Bishop Street, Suite 800, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813, acknowledging this generous donation.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 343-07,
and recommends its adoption.
