Re: Withdrawal of Bill 171
The Coqui Frog Working Group, with the County of Hawaii as the lead agen?cy, is
organizing the First International Conference on the Coqui Frog, to be held on February
7-9, 2008. Initially, Bill 171 was introduced to set up a County account to accept monies
and disburse amounts for facilities use, cost of meals, and other conference expenses.
However, subsequent to the Council's passage of this bill on first reading on October 3,
2007, the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH) has taken over the
administration of the conference finances instead of the County. Thus, the separate
account is no longer required. Furthermore, no County funds are being expended as
the conference will run on registration fees and private donations.
I humbly ask that you withdraw Bill 171 that is up for second and final reading at the
Council Meeting scheduled for November 7, 2007.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 961-8065.
