The General Plan calls for the formation of a steering committee, which would be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council. Previously 11 individuals were confirmed by the Hawaii County Council to serve on the North Kohala CDP Steering Committee. Unfortunately, one of the members resigned from the committee due to personal reasons. Accordingly, I am forwarding for your review and confirmation an alternate who has been participating in the CDP process. We would appreciate your attention on this matter and are requesting that this item be placed on the November 19, 2007 Planning Committee Agenda for discussion with confirmation of this individual on the December 5, 2007 full Council agenda. The 11 nominees selected to serve on the North Kohala CDP Steering Committee are individuals who live and/or work in North Kohala, and whose primary purpose is to ensure that the North Kohala CDP process has a broad base of community participation and is prepared in the best interest of the health and welfare of the community. The Steering Committee would in many ways serve as ambassadors for the planning process. Michael Isaacs was born and raised in North Kohala and graduated from the Kamehameha Schools. Mr. Isaacs has been self-employed for the last ten years as a rancher and farmer and currently serves as the President of the Kohala Historic and Cultural Preservation Group. Mr. Isaacs has been involved with putting on workshops in the North Kohala region to explain the County General Plan to a wide variety of ethnic groups and has also partnered with other organizations to host "talk story" sessions for youth. Mr. Isaacs has a deep connection and roots in the North Kohala area and as he states it, "his family has been in North Kohala for hundreds of years." Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me. Your review and favorable confirmation of Mr. Isaacs' nomination would be appreciated.
