RESOLUTION NO. 414
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Fire Department operates Special Operations Ocean
Safety, and uses Water Safety Officers to guard our beaches; and
WHEREAS, the Lifeguard Station at Magic Sands/La`aloa Beach affords minimal
protection from the elements and is in need of extensive repair due to corrosion and termite
infestation; and
WHEREAS, the Water Safety Officers need to secure Lifeguard Stations after hours to
prevent vandalism and unsafe working conditions, and to inhibit occupation and use by criminal
elements; and
WHEREAS, the new Lifeguard Station selected will provide a clean, safe work
environment due to its composition of high impact fiberglass and a stainless steel support
structure, both of which will last at least twenty years, a unibody design that resists vandalism,
uses a design that is widely accepted nationally, provides a professional appearance, provides
exceptional security, has glare-resistent windows to provide improved area surveillance, the
freestanding structure does not require an environmental impact study, and the unit provides
greater protection from inclement weather for Water Safety Officers; and
WHEREAS, contingency relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the
Fire Department-Ocean Safety Division to defray the cost to purchase, ship, and install a
Surveyor Apex Lifeguard Station at Magic Sands/La`aloa Beach; now, therefore,
BE iT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this resolution
fo the Fire Chief and the Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to
make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
