Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication 714,
regarding Resolution 362-07, reports as follows:
Resolution 362-07, transmitted by Deputy Corporation Counsel Craig T. Masuda, via Communication No. 714,
dated October 3, 2007, authorizes acceptance of real property, being a portion of Tax Map Key: (3)2-4-
010:020, situate at Waiakea, in the District of South Hilo, County and State of Hawaii from Yasuko Onishi and
Dennis Onishi.
Yasuko Onishi and Dennis Onishi are desirous of donating a portion of the subject parcel to the County of
Hawaii that was recently paved to widen Kahaopea Street.
Article XIII, § 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter provides that [he Council may accept gifts which include the
dedication of land on behalf ofthe County of Hawaii.
There was no testimony from members of the public regarding the proposed acceptance.
Deputy Corporation Counsel Craig T. Masuda stated that the paving and widening of Kahaopea Street is
complete; and after acceptance, the County will assume the liability of this street. Department of Public Works
Civil Engineer Kelly Gomes stated that this donation was previously agreed upon between the Onishis' and the
neighboring subdivision developer.
Your Committee on Public Works and intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution 362-07 and recommends its adoption.
