RE: Proposed Bill to Divide Leleiwi Beach Park into Two New Beach Parks, Name
these Two New Parks Pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8 and to Retain Current
Provisions for Consumption of Intoxicating Liquors Pursuant to Chapter 14,
Article 1 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as Amended)
For your consideration, please find attached a bill to divide what is currently Leleiwi Beach Park
into two separate beach parks.
Leleiwi Beach Park is located in the Keaukaha area of South Hilo, at the end of Kalaniana'ole
Avenue.
Leleiwi Beach Park encompasses two distinct tax map keys (TMKs). The attached bill proposes
the removal of the name Leleiwi Beach Park, the creation of two separate parks (one on each
TMK), and the names of the two new beach parks: Wai`olena and Wai`uli.
The bill also proposes to retain current provisions relating to the consumption of intoxicating
liquors. Therefore, chapter 14, article 1, section 14- 1 (a)(6)(AA) and section 14-2.2(a)(1)(E) of
the County Code are amended to retain the provisions for consumption of intoxicating liquors
that currently pertain to Leleiwi Beach Park.
