Subject: RES 395-07 - Task Force
Dear County Council Members,
1 am in favor of Resolution 395-07 that forms a Task Force for a safe pedestrian
pathway between upper and lower Kealakehe Schools. However, if the pathway is
going to travel over Dept. of Hawaiian Home Lands, be sure to include a
representative from DHHL and also a representative from the DHHL residential
co mrritmity.
Also, since the County is constructing a major mauka makai connector that will serve
as a bypass for Palani Road and since this road will generate an endless amount
of speeding, cut-through traffic that will very likely harm the existing roadside
residences of Kealakehe, it is very important that you require that the County form a
Context Sensitive Solutions Advisory Group ASAP! ALL residents living along major
mauka makai routes need to be protected from speeding traffic. A CSS Advisory
Group will provide the expertise to ensure that the proper traffic calming devices are
in place tut the tteighbutltuuers pt utec:tiutt.
The County has already spent millions to hue CH2MHi11 to facilitate two Context
Sensitive Solutions Advisory Groups for the La'aloa and Lako Street. Both roads are
major mauka makai connectors but they are located in "white" neighborhoods. How
come we are neglecting the safety and quality of life of our existing local
neighborhoods'?
Please do all that you can do to form a Context Sensitive Solutions Advisory Group for
Kealakehe as soon as possible. Our local people need to be given equal treatment and
respect when it comes to major mauka makai roads wreaking havoc through their
neighborhoods.
Mahalo,
