Memorandum
TO: Dominic Yagong, Councilmember
Hawaii County Council Q~
FROM: Richard Nishimura, Traffic Division ~~V'
SUBJECT: Honolii Beach Park Traffic/Parking Concerns
(Kahoa Street from Nahala Street to the Maili Stream Bridge)
We conducted a field investigation of the subject area and found that as many as 50 vehicles park
along the roadway, often leaving less than fourteen (14) feet of clear travelway for 2-way traffic
on Kahoa Street.
If we delineate a 16-foot wide roadway along this section of Kahoa Street using 4-inch wide
white edge of pavement lines and adopt atow-away ordinance prohibiting parking on the
roadway, the available parking will decrease by approximately 50%. In other words, only about
25 vehicles will be able to park completely off the 16-ft. wide roadway between Nahala Street
and the Maili Stream bridge.
Please call me at 961-8341 if you have any questions.
