The additional truck tractors are needed to move the increased diverted residential waste, which includes green wastes from transfer stations, to recycling facilities, and/or white metal/scrap metal to the Scrap Metal facilities. The truck tractors will also be utilized in conjunction with the open top trailers which will consolidate the wastes from Pahala and Waiohinu transfer stations to minimize the truck traffic and driving time on the highway. The Solid Waste Fund does not have the resources to purchase the referenced equipment and therefore request the authority to enter in a lease agreement for five (5) years. The funding for this lease is included within the current fiscal year's budget. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Environmental Management.
