No. 768/Res. 395-07 PLACE: Council Chambers Ben Franklin Bldg., 2"d Floor 333 Kilauea Avenue Hilo, Hawaii 96720 TIME: 12:45p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works & Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication 768, regarding Resolution 395-07, reports as follows: Resolution 395-07, transmitted by Councilmember K. Angel Pilago via Communication 768, dated October 22, 2007, requesting the Mayor to form a task force for the purpose of creating a safe pathway for pedestrians, bicyclists and joggers traveling within the Kealakehe School Complex. Your Committee heard from Councilmember K. Angel Pilago presenting a timeline of Kealakehe Pedestrian Pathway from its officially designated perpetual easement in 2001. The County of Hawaii (Department of Public Works) constructed the current connector road between the Kealakehe School Complex and Villages of La`i`opua beginning September 24, 2007. Safety issues were raised by several committees of concerned agencies and organizations regarding the closure of the Kealakehe Pedestrian Pathway during the construction period with the exception for school bus service. It was also the consensus of this committee to support healthy lifestyles and safe routes to school and allow the Mayor to consider forming a task force to discuss alternate routes for pedestrians, bicyclist and joggers traveling within the Kealakehe School Complex. Your Committee heard testimony from the public, and all members of the public spoke in support of this resolution. Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 395-07, and recommends its adoption. dkr wes woes n&F ex Respectfully submitted, FORD X RICA X COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS & eoFFMANN X INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS IKEDA X JACOBSON J{ /t~i~`~' NAEOLE X Fanco X BRENDA FORD, AIR vAGONG X PWIRC REPORT NO. 42 YOSHIMOTO X ADOPTED: N~~ ? 0 2007
